High West Midwinter Night’s Dram 2022
Concentrated red fruit, lfted lingonberry, blueberry, and plums. Vanilla Extract and some Italian shoe leather to round out a very elegant nose. On the palate, extremely ripe red fruit. If Macallan sherry cask was made with rye instead of barley this would be it. Cinnamon and shortbread combined with a long and complex fruit finish, but NOT even close to being too sweet or “over” finished. This is a perfect neat sipper by the fire. Another triumph!
Wild Turkey Master’s Keep Unforgotten
A blend of 13yr bourbon and 8 & 9yr ryes finished in rye barrels. Wild Turkey Unforgotten presents leather pouch, yellow fruit, vanilla ice cream, and pine forest on the nose. On the palate the 105 proof is surprisingly sweet, with a whole “bourbon candy” vibe backed up by a spicy rye backbone. This is the bottle that everyone starts slow on, but ends up being the first one empty at the end of the night. Totally delicious.

“Craft Your Perfect Bourbon” is an 8 year old wheated mashbill aged on highest floors and bottled at 95 proof. It is a bourbon created by data and taste concensus, and while I would normally defer to the hadn of the maker, in this case the mob got it right. Perfumed and balanced nose of fruit, floral, and candy bourbon flavors. Tropcical fruit mixed with cashews, oranges, and light leathery oak. On the palate, soft, subtle, and piercingly complex in that the whiskey is “light” but only by touch. The flavors are multi-layered, fruit driven, and extremely well balanced. While some dusties are sublime for their rich butterscotch, a truly exaltant new bourbon should be known for the lightness and light of the distillate, such subtle and complex flavors can only be produced by the HIGHEST of standards of process and QC. WOW…floored. I want more!
Old Forester Barrel Proof Single Barrel Rye – 130.6
Huge baking spice with cinnamon, cadamom, clove and mint. Holy cow the flavor on the palate takes me back to my first sip of George T Stagg a decade ago. I didn’t think whiskey COULD taste this good and this flavorful. Spice throughout with warming bread and fruit notes. Red and tropical fruits, then a lingering cinnamon and oak spice. There’s deep cherry and raspberry as well. I DID NOT LIKE this whiskey the first time I had it a year ago. This bottlling at 130.6 proof is as good as any BTAC bottling I’ve ever tasted. Since you can’t get Sazerac 18 at full proof, this will have to do! Holy cow! HALL OF FAME!

Knob Creek 18yr
Three seasons dried oak about to hit the campfire, huge depth of herbs, spice, brown sugar and chocolate covered oranges. Savory and sweet, raisins, mince meat pie, holiday spices and an ever present oak note that’s big but not overpowering. This thing is living on the edge but never goes over. WOW!

Fresh caramel and orchard fruit aromas, buttery biscuit, honey, then cornbread. On the palate show stopping weight and viscosity. Baking spice, sweet raisins and dates, chocolate orange, and more red fruit. Rich, oily, big, but deliciously integrated. Sippable all day at 116.8 proof!
Pluto’s Single Barrel Bourbon
Apple crisp, lemon pound cake, apricot, Albanese gummies, and freshly baked shortbread. On the palate, soft lemon curd, then the silkiest spice I’ve ever tasted in a bourbon. Sweet peppercorn, almost agave like. Quite incredible.
